movie night was really nice. played video art from the Decibelio 2006 DVD (now some of them are dated I guess), plus a TED talk and a Fora.tv talk:
Golan Levin makes art that looks back at you
Axis of Evil: Christopher Hitchens

Golan Levin's talk was a clear highlight, along with some of the video art sets.

it was a nice movie night. chronos was replaced with a video for Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot.

TED talks played:
Olafur Eliasson: Playing with space and light
Daniel Kraft invents a better way to harvest bone marrow
Nina Jablonski breaks the illusion of skin color
Alain de Botton: A kinder, gentler philosophy of success

the last two were definitely highlights of the evening, though not much discussion was sparked

movie changed to Chronos by Ron Fricke, plus some TED talks. starting at 22h

this tuesday we're officially starting what's been going informally on for a while: movie nights.

now every tuesday and thursday (provided we have good weather), a movie (or more) will be played in the backyard (I might add pictures of this soon, we have an open air movie theater). no charge obviously.

note that there will be NO COMMERCIAL, BIG TIME ENTERTAINMENT or PSEUDOCIENCE/BULLSHIT VIDEOS. we only play documentaries, short films and anything that promotes inquisitive rational thought or aesthetic pleasure. some music videos sometimes but NO FUCKING ENTERTAINMENT. if you want to be entertained you can go masturbate on your newly bought branded clothes somewhere else. git.

requests are accepted but subject to dictatorial review. movies start at 22h.

for two days I've been alone, after the departure of Layla. I have to
say, what a remarkable human being, and what a wonderful gift:

Charles Bukowski - The Genius Of The Crowd

there is enough treachery, hatred violence absurdity in the average
human being to supply any given army on any given day

and the best at murder are those who preach against it
and the best at hate are those who preach love
and the best at war finally are those who preach peace

those who preach god, need god
those who preach peace do not have peace
those who preach peace do not have love

beware the preachers
beware the knowers
beware those who are always reading books
beware those who either detest poverty
or are proud of it
beware those quick to praise
for they need praise in return
beware those who are quick to censor
they are afraid of what they do not know
beware those who seek constant crowds for
they are nothing alone
beware the average man the average woman
beware their love, their love is average
seeks average

but there is genius in their hatred
there is enough genius in their hatred to kill you
to kill anybody
not wanting solitude
not understanding solitude
they will attempt to destroy anything
that differs from their own
not being able to create art
they will not understand art
they will consider their failure as creators
only as a failure of the world
not being able to love fully
they will believe your love incomplete
and then they will hate you
and their hatred will be perfect

like a shining diamond
like a knife
like a mountain
like a tiger
like hemlock

their finest art

it's amazing how poetry phrases so well. for years I've been saying
the same with bland basic words. now I have a beautiful picture I can
point to.

thank you Layla, you have been deemed Perfectly Acceptable.
